Back to Basics: An Elementary 5W Rendition of Montreal Fashion Week

Semaine de Mode Montréal 18

We must have pondered this question a million times (hence the delay): how can we possibly convey to readers the true essence of the 18th edition of Montreal Fashion Week? I mean, what hasn’t already been said?

The Consumable Art of Fashion with Katrin Leblond

Semaine de Mode Montréal 18

Fashion shows all have the same basic structure: gorgeous Barbie doll models walk up and down the runway while posing and being admired by the audience. Katrin Leblond’s fashion show for her Fall/Winter 2010 collection had that, plus average-sized non-Barbie-ish women. And an elderly woman, too. Oh, and also acrobatic performances.

Why I Love Denis Gagnon

Semaine de Mode Montréal 18

I had the pleasure of viewing the Denis Gagnon show in person, this past Montreal Fashion Week 2010. When I say show, I mean it was not just a fashion show, but an art show as well! This was quite a difficult show to get into, but I was there at the right place at the right moment and we managed to get those elusive tickets. He is the fashion king of Quebec, and in my books he ought to be way more famous. Why he is not (yet, perhaps), I cannot fathom.

MFW18 Day 4 - Ralph Leroy, Soïa & Kyo, Denis Gagnon

Semaine de Mode Montréal 18

Three fashion shows, four fashionistas, one photographer, two glasses of champagne (okay, three), a crowded group of enthusiastic people, and one unforgettable night. The final day of Montreal Fashion Week was all that I had expected, and much much more.

MFW18 Finale with Denis Gagnon

Semaine de Mode Montréal 18

We are fiercely proud of our homegrown designers, and to them, we tip our hats in respect; knowing it is far easier to critique than to create and build what they have showcased at MFW 18. With hard work, resolve, passion and dedication, insanely talented designers made this MFW one to remember!

Kudos also to the organizers, volunteers, supporters and collaborators for pulling off the week in style!

To toast to a grand finale, here’s our dedication in pictures of the Denis Gagnon Show…a feast for your eyes, chic for your soul, until we pick it up again at MFW 19.

MFW18 Day 3 - Micalla, Annie 50, Katrin Leblond, Barilà

Semaine de Mode Montréal 18

From high-end glamorous jewellery to Alfred Hitchcock inspired clothing to sequins galore – Day 3 of Fashion Week had it all. The Marché Bonsecours was super busy and crowded like the past two days, but the shows were really fun and vibrant.
